Scenario 1: Distributing a presentation to 20 people
Before a meeting you'll email participants a compact copy of the presentation and everyone will print their own.

You made your file 4-up. When printing, the driver still has "2 pages per sheet" left over from a previous job. The result: it actually prints 8-up and nothing is readable.
Preventing it is simple but easily forgotten: before printing an N-up file, verify that the driver's "pages per sheet" setting is 1. Also turn off "fit to page" or "scale" — that setting shrinks the content one more time.
The reverse is possible too: if you're going to use the printer setting, make sure the file isn't already N-up. If there's a hint in the file name like "4up," pay attention.
